There’s a law in the Universe known as “The Law of Reciprocity” – and I’d bet it’s keeping you from getting what you want.
Reciprocity in action happens when another person chooses to do you a favor. A gift, service, an introduction, just about anything. It feels great! However, when you accept you automatically feel the need to reciprocate and are instantly in debt to the person who did the good deed. That’s the “Law of Reciprocity.”
How do you avoid the trap?
The simple trick to not owing everybody who invokes the Law of Reciprocity without your permission is to decline the offer right away. Just say, “No thanks.”
The next method is to recognize that just because somebody insists on doing you a favor, you are NOT obligated to reciprocate – although you’ll sure feel like you should. Just say, “No.”
Finally, if it’s YOU that initiates the favor, remember that the same rules apply when coming from the other side.
